Measuring radiation in strong magnetic fields is a well-known challenge. A new paper published in Physica Medica reports on clinical performance tests of B-RAD, our portable gamma survey meter and spectrometer designed for this purpose.
The study presents on-site measurements performed in the presence of strong magnetic fields, up to 3 T, using clinical MRI and MRI-Linac systems. The results confirm that B-RAD provides reliable H*(10) dose rate measurements and gamma spectrometry under operating conditions where conventional radiation protection instruments cannot be used.
From an operational perspective, the instrument shows stable performance when the probe is exposed to high magnetic fields, with dose rate deviations fully acceptable for radiation protection applications.
These findings further support the use of B-RAD for radiation monitoring in MRI-Linac, PET-MRI and other high magnetic field environments, both during operation and decommissioning activities.
